Alberta Initiative — Active 2026

Most people leave prison
with no one waiting.

Harvest trains Alberta faith communities to walk alongside people returning from incarceration. Long enough for the relationship to become real, and for real change to follow.

Active in Alberta

Every region of Alberta needs a church ready to say yes.

The Alberta Initiative is not a waiting list. It is an open invitation. We are actively recruiting faith communities across all five regions of the province, because every region has people coming home from incarceration with nowhere to go.

Harvest provides comprehensive training, candidate vetting, and ongoing support. Your church brings the one thing we cannot provide: a community that chooses to show up.

How it works

Built on relationship, not referrals.

Harvest does not connect people to programs. We match one individual to one specific community, and we walk alongside both until the relationship becomes real.

Step 01

Intake inside

Candidates are identified and vetted before release, working with chaplains while still inside, so a community is ready and waiting the day they walk out. No gap. No limbo.

Step 02

Your team is trained and matched

Harvest equips a small team within your church through our comprehensive training program. Once your team is ready, we make a placement based on genuine fit, not just geography.

Step 03

You walk alongside them

Your church commits to a real relationship, not a program with an end date. Harvest stays involved the whole way. Structure gives way to genuine belonging, and that is when lives change.

Find your place

Two ways into the work.

The Alberta Initiative needs churches ready to commit and donors ready to fund it.

For churches
Your congregation is already equipped. We help you see it.

In every church there are people quietly hungry to do something that genuinely matters. Not a bake sale, not a one-off, but a real relationship with someone rebuilding their life. Harvest helps you find those people and release them into what they already carry.

Comprehensive training before any placement is made
One candidate. One church. A relationship that has time to become real.

I realize I need a new family because I never really had one. I have a 13-year-old daughter that I barely know, but she needs her mom. I am ready for whatever this is going to take.

One story among many

When the right support is there at the right time

Michelle came out of incarceration having experienced a genuine faith change inside. She did not need a referral to a program. She needed a family.

Today she holds a steady job and is actively rebuilding her relationship with her daughter. The Alberta Initiative exists to multiply that outcome, one person, one church, one trained team at a time.
