Helping with the Harvest

In our nation, we have approximately 600 women who are currently incarcerated in our six federal institutions. Through our relationships and research, we can confidently state that there are 60 Christian women that would be ready, safe and willing to enter into a Christ-centered network of relationships in a local church within the next 12-18 months. Half of these women have children, most of them have more than one.

We need fully trained Harvest churches to be at the ready from sea to sea. Our target is to see 60 churches prepared to walk alongside these 60 women (and their children) beginning in 2023.

If these women are plugged into healthy relationships within local churches, the fiscal savings to Canadians is over  12.6 million dollars per year*. Additionally, the children of incarcerated women are 4 times more likely to end up incarcerated themselves. There is a huge fiscal cost to this as well, but that said, we do not seek to quantify the cost associated with a single life. We can't put a price tag on anyone's future and eternity.

While this is a seemingly overwhelming challenge, we are firmly convinced that the cycle of crime will break in Canada - one person at a time, one family at a time and one church at a time.

*The annual cost of incarceration is $211,000 per female inmate.
